I was on Facebook looking through the profile of my old friend Matt when I realized something.
I met Matt at St. Jude almost ten years ago. He was diagnosed with this crazy cancer that no one had ever seen. I can’t even tell you what it was because there is no technical term for the cancer. He was always fighting, always in pain. My favorite memory of him is letting him ride around on my back through The Ronald McDonald House’s kitchen. He let me be a sister when both of our families were back home. He was my best friend for those miserable months of radiation and needles, but we never talk now. We experienced something together that few do.
Once I thought about it a while, I messaged him on Facebook. He initially responded asking if we had gone to school together at some point, which made me laugh. But once I helped him a bit, he was so excited and we talked like we still saw each other every day. He still messages me back from time to time. This just made me super happy.
